Welcome to the UK Shaolin Martial Arts Grading. Our grading system is designed to guide students through their martial arts journey, ensuring they develop not only physical skills but also mental discipline, respect, and the true spirit of Shaolin. Here, you will find everything you need to know about our grading process, requirements, and the path to achieving higher ranks.
Our Grading Philosophy
At UK Shaolin, we believe that grading is more than just a test; it is an opportunity for students to demonstrate their progress, set goals, and receive constructive feedback. Our grading system is built on the principles of fairness, rigour, and support, ensuring each student’s success is earned through dedication and hard work.
Eligibility & Requirements
To be eligible for grading, students must:
Be registered members of the UK Shaolin organisation.
Complete the required training duration for their current grade:
- Beginners to Level 1: 3 – 6 months
- Level 1 to Level 2: 6 – 12 months
- Level 2 to Level 3: 1 – 1.5 years
- Level 3 to Level 4: 1.5 – 2 years
- Level 4 to Level 5: 2 – 2.5 years
- Level 5 to Level 6: 2.5 – 3 years
- Level 6 to Level 7: 3 – 3.5 years
- Level 7 to Level 8: 4 – 5 years
- Level 8 to Level 9: 5 years and over
- Attend at least 80% of scheduled classes.
Grading Components
Our grading syllabus encompasses a range of skills and knowledge areas, including:
- Basic Techniques: Mastery of stances, punches, kicks, and blocks.
- Forms: Precision in performing hand forms, weapon forms, and Duilian forms (Kung Fu/Wushu/Tai Chi).
- Sanda Kickboxing: Demonstrating the ability to apply techniques in controlled sparring sessions.
- Self-Defense: Executing self-defence techniques with understanding and effectiveness.
- Fitness: Meeting fitness requirements appropriate for each grade, including tests of endurance, strength, and flexibility.
Belt System & Promotion
Our belt system symbolises the journey and progress of our students:
- Belt Colors: White, Yellow, Green, Orange, Purple, Red, Black, Red and Black, Yellow and Red.
- Promotion: Based on overall performance in grading, including skills, knowledge, attitude, and improvement.
- Advanced Grading: Achieving an Advanced Belt involves demonstrating advanced skills and deep Shaolin principles, including comprehensive tests of all previous material, advanced forms, breaking techniques, and teaching ability.
Application Process
To apply for grading:
- Submit Application: Apply through your instructor at least two weeks before the grading date.
- Pay Fee: A grading fee is required, varying by grade level.
- Prepare: Attend extra classes and revision sessions to ensure readiness.
